NEW BEGINNINGS PARTY

Excited to get going with Sortinghat on Dreamwidth? Excellent, so am I! While we're waiting for the game to start over here, here's a chance to get used to using the site with a wide-open meme.

The setting? A New Years party at Hogwarts (never mind if your character went home, that's why this is a meme)! There's every kind of delicious magical food you can think of (and oh dear, did somebody spike some of the punch?), live music, and glitter everywhere.

Your mission? Try something new! Try as many new somethings as you can think of! Test-drive a character (or throw in somebody you'd never actually app), tag a stranger, go out of your comfort zone, incorporate an element of the magical world you've never gotten around to using, or even have some stray magic hit your character and do whatever kind of bizarre thing comes to mind. With a new year, website, setting, and format, isn't it about time you did something new and exciting with your roleplaying?

This is open to characters and players not in the game!

(Need inspiration? Might I suggest picking a random page from the Harry Potter wiki?)

[And here's Rarity, wearing something that rivals the decorations in glitter content and slightly tipsy. She's been highly sociable all night and has no plans to stop -- or sleep any time tonight, because even though this isn't a particularly fancy party it is nonetheless fabulous.

She's also managed to acquire an earlier incarnation of what is more or less a Comb-a-Chamelion and is working her way around the room, very eager to try it on somebody besides herself. (Although she does make a good blonde, doesn't she?)]

[Okay, so somehow he got dragged to this party thing that was apparently happening. He couldn't remember how, that had been way too long ago by whatever hour this was. Karkat is standing near a wall away from the general crowd, hands shoved into the confines of an overly large grey hoodie he'd thrown on at the last minute as he watched the populace of Hogwarts drink themselves stupid.

So much for wizard superiority or whatever that You-Know-Who guy had been gunning for.]

[Wanders over, and leans on the wall next to Karkat, a dreamy, abstracted sort of look on his face (which he's managed to get glitter all over somehow), thumbs shoved in the pockets of his polka dotted pants).] Hey, mate.

[It takes him a moment to react, considering he's used to being almost constantly overshadowed by the other, but when he does it's just a casual glance out the corner of his eyes.]

She'll be here flirting with anyone - guys, girls, even the teachers. But at least she's having a blast... until she wakes up in the morning the next day with about three detentions and no idea how she got them.]

[Kyouko hadn't gone home for the holidays since Christmas of her first year, mostly since home had violently and literally torn itself apart during that break. Her current foster home had colored all of its holiday invitations in shades of "what if some of your friends stay at school..." and "you probably have some big projects due...", and Kyouko could take the poorly thought out hint.

Luckily she liked good and, more importantly, plentiful food even more than draining the joy out of strangers' holidays. She had powered through a good portion of the refreshments already and was currently helping herself to the mountain of freshly laid out pudding with the ladle she'd stolen from the punch bowl.]

[Mami was standing by the refreshment table, absently nibbling on a cookie as she scanned the room for unruly behaviours. Some of the students seemed to be a bit rowdy, as was to be expected for a New Year's party, she supposed, but nothing violent or untoward seemed to be happening.

Until someone elbowed her in the side. She let out a little 'oof' and turned to see who had jostled her.]

[There was supposed to be an interpreter here for her, but either she got lost, the paperwork got lost, or someone decided that this would be a good test of improvisational communication skills. Well, Shizune's not happy about it, but them's the breaks.]

[And thusly do we have a new student, plate overflowing with fried things, not making any conversation. She alternates between looking exasperated and scanning the room with a severe gaze, as if sizing up the entire student body for exploitable weaknesses over lunch.]
